Sometimes a session may not generate notes — this can happen if the recording was too short, had poor audio quality, or experienced a processing issue. The good news is you don't need to start over. You can add extra audio directly to the existing session and try again.
How to Add Extra Audio to an Existing Session
Open the session from your dashboard
Click Add Recording to attach additional audio to the same session
Record your additional notes or re-record a summary of the consultation
Once the new audio has uploaded, it should auto generate a new clinical note or click Generate Transcript from Recording to manually activate
Your notes should then generate automatically from the combined audio Alternatively, you can navigate to the Context tab and record the missing section as an additional dictation. Once the new dictation is transcribed, the session note will automatically update to include the new content without needing to click "Generate Transcript from Recording."
When to Use This
Your original recording was too short or mostly silence
The audio quality was poor (e.g. background noise, microphone too far away)
The session shows a transcript but no notes were generated
You want to add follow-up observations to an existing session
You need to add a missing section, such as a treatment note, to an otherwise successful session
Tips for a Successful Re-Recording
Speak clearly and at a normal pace
Keep your microphone close and minimise background noise
A recording of at least 10 seconds generally produces better results
You don't need to re-record the full session — dictating a brief summary of the consultation is enough for the AI to generate structured notes
There is no need to change the session type when adding new dictation; the system will automatically integrate the new content into the existing session note.
Accessing Original Audio Recordings
Accessing Original Audio Recordings
If your organisation has audio retention enabled, you can play back the original consultation audio within PatientNotes, though audio cannot be downloaded. The full written transcript of the session also remains accessible for review and reference. This ensures that all critical information is preserved and available for future use.
Note that audio playback depends on your organisation's settings — if audio retention is not enabled, only the written transcript will be available.
Still Not Working?
If your session still won't generate notes after adding extra audio, please contact our support team and include the session name so we can investigate for you.
