The short answer
Templates are the new version of Clinical Prompts — same core purpose (telling PatientNotes how to write your notes), but with significantly more control over structure, formatting, and output style. Your old prompts have not been deleted and there is no deadline to switch.

Where did my prompts go?
They're still there. Your existing prompts are accessible under Letters and Reports in the sidebar — look for the section headed "Prompts." Nothing has been removed. They work exactly as before.
What's different about Templates?
Templates give you a structured visual editor where you can:
Define your own headings and note sections
Add content blocks — AI Text, AI List, AI Table — that the AI fills from your session
Use logic blocks to show sections only when they're relevant (e.g. only if discussed)
Set format rules — tone, tense, jargon, certainty, and more
Test your template against a real session before going live
Import an existing note to build a template automatically
Most users build their first template in under five minutes using Import from Notes — paste an example of your existing clinical note and PatientNotes builds the structure for you.
Do I have to switch to Templates?
No. There is no deadline and no requirement to migrate. You can continue using your existing prompts for as long as you like. When you're ready to switch, you can convert any prompt into a template using the Import from Notes option — but there's no rush.
What about prompts for Letters and Reports?
Templates now work across clinical notes, letters, and reports. Letter and report prompts remain accessible in the existing format under Letters and Reports in the sidebar.
Where do I find Templates?
Go to patientnotes.app/dashboard/templates or navigate to Templates from your dashboard menu.
I can't see Templates in my menu
If Templates isn't showing in your menu, you may need to enable it. Here's how:
Go to Settings → Profile (or visit patientnotes.app/dashboard/profile)
Scroll down and click Show me under Early Access Features
Toggle on Extended Templates
Templates will then appear in your menu. If you're still not seeing it after that, contact our support team via the chat widget and we'll get it sorted.
