Telehealth Audio Capture (Chrome & Edge): Record your mic + telehealth call audio

How to capture both your microphone and your patient's voice from telehealth platforms like Coviu, Zoom, Google Meet and others using Chrome or Edge — on any computer.

Watch the interactive walkthrough below, then follow the steps to set up telehealth audio capture in Chrome.

What is Telehealth Audio Capture?

PatientNotes can capture both your microphone and the audio from your telehealth call — so your AI-generated notes include everything said in the session, not just your side of the conversation.

This works with any telehealth platform running in a Chrome or Edge browser tab, including Coviu, Zoom, Google Meet, and others. It works on any computer — Mac or Windows.

Compatible Setup

  • Browser: Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge

  • OS: Mac or Windows

  • Telehealth platform: Any platform running in a browser tab (Coviu, Zoom web, Google Meet, etc.)

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Start a new session

Enter your patient's name, select a template, and press Start.

2. Confirm consent

PatientNotes will ask if you have received consent to record the consultation. Select Yes (or Not required if consent capture is disabled in your settings) to continue.

3. Select the Telehealth tab

In the recording screen, click the Telehealth tab. This activates the screen share setup for capturing your video call audio.

4. Choose Chrome Tab in the share dialog

Your browser will open a "Choose what to share" window. Select Chrome Tab at the top.

5. Enable Share audio — this step is critical

Before clicking Share, make sure the audio toggle at the bottom is switched on. Look for:

  • Also share tab audio

  • Also share system audio

Without this enabled, PatientNotes will only capture your microphone — not your patient's voice.

6. Select your telehealth call tab

From the list of open tabs, click the tab where your video call is running (Zoom, Google Meet, Coviu, etc.) to highlight it, then click Share.

How to Confirm It's Working

Once recording starts, check that the audio visualiser is moving when both you and your patient speak. If it only responds to your voice, tab audio wasn't captured — see troubleshooting below.

Troubleshooting

Audio visualiser not moving when patient speaks
The wrong tab was selected, or share audio wasn't enabled. Stop the recording, go back to the Telehealth tab, and repeat the setup — making sure you select the correct tab and enable audio sharing.

Screen capture access denied
The share prompt was declined or blocked by your browser. Click through the Telehealth setup again and select a Chrome or Edge tab. You may need to refresh the page and try again.

Screen sharing dropped mid-session
Your microphone will continue recording automatically so you won't lose the session. Restart screen share if possible by going back to the Telehealth tab.

My patient can't hear me — are they seeing my screen?
No. Sharing a Chrome tab with PatientNotes has no effect on your video call. Your patient only sees what's inside your video call app — nothing changes on their end.

Using Safari or Firefox?
Screen share audio capture only works in Chrome or Edge. For the best experience on Mac or Windows, download and install the PatientNotes Desktop App — it captures system audio automatically without needing a specific browser. Download the Desktop App →
