How to set up the Nookal integration, and quick fixes for the most common Nookal problems.
First check: do your email addresses match?
This causes most Nookal problems. The email you log in to PatientNotes with must be exactly the same as the email you use in Nookal. If they don't match, you won't see your Dashboard and the integration won't work correctly.
Setting up the Nookal integration
Go to Settings → Integrations → Nookal and enter your Nookal API key.
Make sure all required settings are selected within the Nookal API configuration.
Check the status: a green light means the integration is active; a red light or red exclamation mark means there's a problem.
Adding a team member
Each team member needs their own PatientNotes login using the same email address they use for Nookal. Invite them from Settings → Team → Invite member using that email. If the emails match, they'll automatically have access to the integration.
My dashboard or appointments won't load
Check your PatientNotes and Nookal emails match (above).
Check the status in Settings → Integrations. If it's red, click it for details.
Still red with matching emails? Re-enter your API key in Settings → Integrations → Nookal and reconnect.
On the iPhone or Android app, appointments load in the Dashboard tab. Load your day's appointments in the app
My note isn't going to Nookal, or it's going to the wrong practitioner
Start the session from the appointment on your PatientNotes dashboard. That's what links the session to the right Nookal client. Sessions started manually, uploaded audio, and notes typed in with Enter Manually aren't linked to a client, so they can't be sent automatically — copy and paste the note into Nookal instead.
Note showing under the wrong practitioner? Check that practitioner's PatientNotes and Nookal emails match, then re-enter the API key and reconnect.
If you've checked all of the above and notes or documents still aren't arriving in Nookal, contact us — there are some known limitations with sending certain content to Nookal, and we can check what's happening for your account.
The recording saved but there's no note
That's a session issue rather than a Nookal one. See Recording, transcript or note problem? Start here.

Strange characters when pasting notes into Nookal
If you see characters like "Â Â" or lost spacing after pasting a note into Nookal, it's caused by nested (indented) bullet points. Nookal's editor doesn't support the special spacing characters they use.
Use flat bullet points rather than indented sub-bullets.
Use plain text or short paragraphs where you can.
Update your template so it doesn't produce nested bullets — in Craft with AI, try "No nested or indented bullet points."
Test with one note before transferring a large batch.
