Refine or redraft a clinical note with the refine / feedback box

Change a generated note with the refine / feedback box on the Clinical Note tab: plain-language instructions, example prompts, and when to update your template instead.

Not quite happy with a generated note? Use the refine / feedback box to tell PatientNotes what to change in plain language, and it will redraft the note for you.

How to refine a note

  1. Open the session and go to the Clinical Note tab.

  2. Find the refine / feedback box.

  3. Type what you'd like changed, as if you were asking a colleague.

  4. Regenerate and review the new version.

Tip: if there's anything in the current note you want to keep, copy it before you regenerate.

Example instructions

  • "Make the plan a numbered list."

  • "Shorter and more concise — no more than five lines per section."

  • "Write it in third person, e.g. 'The therapist assessed…'."

  • "Only include what the patient reported in the subjective section. Put my examination findings in the objective section."

  • "Only use the conversation up to when I said 'see you next week'. Ignore everything after that."

  • "Add the home exercise program we discussed as a separate section."

Be specific — one or two clear instructions work better than a long list.

Making the same change every time?

The refine box changes this note. If you find yourself asking for the same change on every session, update your template instead so notes come out right first time. The quickest way is Craft with AI in the template editor — describe the change in plain language and it updates the template for you. How to use Craft with AI
